Last year, in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, a member of my fan-fic writing community posted a challenge to use one of 20 prompts in a story. One of those prompts, #13 (my lucky number, also the day of the month on which I was born), inspired me to start a new series.
“Seven angels are each assigned to a different sin: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. The angels’ job is to steer humans away from these sins.”
I know nothing of sins and next to nothing of angels. And yet, this prompt spoke to me. Perhaps it was because of my very inability to relate to the concept that this particular prompt spoke to me.
While the writing challenge was presented to a fan-fiction community, the story I wrote to meet that challenge and the seven characters I had introduced into that story started taking on a life of their own.
I've rewritten the challenge story as original fiction, wrote a sequel which I still need to edit, and I've also written three back stories, one short vignette, and am currently working on a book to wrap up the story I started in the first two that also ties up loose ends in the three backstories. The finale, in other words.
So who are these new characters? Angels? Maybe. Sinners? I still don't understand the concept. Imperfect? Most definitely.
Meet John, Thayer, Joash, Hanson, Yuri, Sam, and Nathan: seven special brothers who take assignments trying to fix people and places. Sometimes, things don't go according to plan.
